Recently I was perusing Pinterest and came across an article “the easiest way to organize and pay your family’s bills”.  I clicked on the link to see just what secret sauce they had to ensure all the bills get paid on time.  The article outlined a 4 step process that included customizing a bill storage caddy with pretty printed paper and setting aside a day of the week EACH WEEK to spend on the bills.  This was shocking to me.  In order to make sure that all the bills are paid on time for a family they suggest that you would need to set aside 2-4 hours each week to take care of just getting the bills organized, prepared, and sent.  This also was as long as you didn’t have much more than utilities, mortgage, cars, and maybe a credit card or two.  Do people really spend 2-4 hours per week just paying the bills?

What if you are also responsible for your elderly parent’s finances?  While elderly parents may no longer have car payments or credit card debt they generally have medical expenses that need to be managed.   Does this mean then that you are tacking on another 2-4 hours each week to manage the finances of your family and parents? 

What about those of us that spend time traveling for work, or plan to take a vacation that will occur over our “bill pay day?”  I started to look at a few other articles that gave tips and tricks to getting your bills paid on time quickly and easily.  While I must admit that many of the bill organizers and stylish printables were very cute I just couldn’t understand how people have the time to spend on average 4 hours per week doing nothing more than managing their bills.
